The E-book: Taking the Big Leap
How Dutch scale-ups are successfully expanding to New York and Boston
The Dutch startup ecosystem has proven itself time and again to produce some of the most innovative ideas, products and services on the market. But we believe our Dutch success stories shouldn’t be confined by borders.
That’s why in 2019 Halve Maen, in conjunction with PRLab and TwentieFour, conducted a research into the top challenges and best practices of 29 Dutch scale-ups on expanding to NYC and Boston.
The results of the research can be found in the (e)book ”Taking the Big Leap”. In addition to the (e)book, a series of (video) interviews, podcasts and infographics have been created. These will become available from July 16 2020 on. Stay tuned for more!
Our goal is that this research and associated content will provide fellow entrepreneurs with the insights they need to take on the U.S. market.

Important note: Last year we spoke to successful Dutch entrepreneurs landing and expanding to NYC and Boston – little did we know what would happen next – especially in these uncertain times it is of vital important to remain as flexible and resilient as possible, optimizing and pivoting our innovative solutions.

What is the Halve Maen?
The Halve Maen is a public-private partnership creating a soft-landing in New York for Dutch startups and scale-ups. Established as a joint venture between the Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in New York and a cluster of Dutch startups and scale-ups, Halve Maen is a so-called Partnership in International Business (PIB), a three-year long program organized in collaboration with the Netherlands Enterprise Agency.
The Halve Maen initiative supports Dutch startups and scale-ups in making the move to the U.S., via New York by creating relevant content and organizes meetups and programs.. With this, the initiative thus serves as a platform for collaboration between Dutch and NYC-based partners, promoting and positioning the Dutch in the NYC startup ecosystem
