About PIB (Partners for International Business)
With Partners for International Business (PIB), the Dutch government aspires a partnership with the private commercial sector.
This program, organised by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency, focuses on groups of companies, possibly supplemented with research institutes, who wish to enter a foreign market jointly. Within this approach a coordinated strategy rather than stand-alone activities is applied. Through economic diplomacy, the government tries to eliminate trade and investment barriers, so that entrepreneurs can seize opportunities.
PIB focuses on Dutch companies in the top sectors Energy, Life Sciences & Healthcare, Creative Industry, Water, Agrifood, Horticulture, High Tech Systems and Materials (including aviation, logistics and chemistry) and internationalization strategies that focus on specific countries.
Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO.nl) encourages entrepreneurs in sustainable, agrarian, innovative and international business. It helps with grants, finding business partners, know-how and compliance with laws and regulations. The aim is to improve opportunities for entrepreneurs and strengthen their position.
Netherlands Enterprise Agency is part of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and works at the instigation of ministries and the European Union. Some activities of the Commodities Boards are also included. The Agency works in The Netherlands and abroad with governments, knowledge centres, international organisations and countless other partners.
History of the name ‘Halve Maen’
In 1609, when Henry Hudson sailed and explored the Manhattan river that would later bear his name, he did so on behalf of the Dutch Republic. Hudson might have thought about how the island would look like in 400 years. Would he have guessed that the Dutch, a people characterized by spirit of entrepreneurship and relatively high tolerance, would still be a part of it?
Hudson sailed and reached the island of Manhattan in the beginning of the 17th century on a vlieboot, or carrack, called the “Halve Maen” (in English: Half Moon). And it is this ship that would become the symbol of the historical Dutch-American connection in common trade, mindset and vigor.
Now in the year 2017, a new chapter is added to the centuries-old network. By embracing the shared NY-US values, new initiatives can grow together by looking forward and working together to surmount common challenges. The age of exploration lives!

Doing business in and around New York
The economic department is always on the look-out for new opportunities for Dutch companies and organizations. We build and maintain a large network of local contacts as well as contacts within the Dutch business community. We connect, we inform, we advise, and perhaps most importantly, we promote. Be it by partnering for the Smart Cities NYC conference, organizing workshops on deployable flood defense technology, or supporting Dutch Days, seminars and networking events, we position and promote Dutch experience, knowledge, and products as innovative and reliable. We have especially a lot of experience and contacts in the NY start-up community, the energy & cleantech industry and the water sector in cities such as New York and Boston. However we stimulate and assist companies within all sectors who are seeking opportunities in these geographic areas.
Overall activities of the Economic Department:
· Identification and promotion of trade and investment opportunities between Dutch and American enterprises;
· Responding to inquiries from Dutch and American companies, knowledge institutes, and schools;
